“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”

 —Anthony Robbins

There is a difference between taking action without goals or purpose, and taking action that enables you to make meaningful progress in your chosen direction.

You can be constantly busy

You can put in lots of effort and have loads of talent and skill

…but if you aren’t intentional about it you can end one year feeling like you are in much the same position as the year before – like a groundhog day, only more tired and with your career in basically the same place.

Do you ever feel like that?

I know I have had years that felt way too much like a year I had already had. And for me, there’s not a lot of fun in that – a creative life with the creativity and fun and growth not at its optimum.

An analogy…

Think about driving. Yes I love a road trip and driving analogies so here we go…

road

One Way

Drive 15 kilometres (kms) from your home to one place and back again at the end of the day = 30 kms a day.

Do this for 100 days and you have driven 3000 kms but you have only covered the same 15 kms.

The same 15 kms, over and over 200 times (100 in the morning and 100 at the end of the day).

A Different Way

Now this time, let’s choose a destination and a direction of travel. (Yep I’m talking about a GOAL and purposeful action)

On day one you drive 15 kms in the morning, and in the evening another 15 kms heading toward your direction. It’s the same amount of driving as the first example, right?

Then you do the same thing again each day, always focusing on your chosen direction for 100 days.

Outcome

Over the same 100 days, you will have put in the exact same amount of effort, and you will have covered 3000 kms – instead of 15 kms.

Two thousand nine hundred and eighty-five MORE kilometres travelled in the direction of your goal.

Not only are you way closer to your goal that you were previously, but for the same amount of effort – just by being focused – you achieved more, experienced more, saw more, learned more.

Same effort
The same amount of time
The same amount of energy used
Even the same amount of petrol
But a different intention and a VERY different outcome.

So what is the difference?

It’s all about having a clear goal and direction, being willing to try a different way and being prepared to take a small amount of action each day.

Clarity of vision, a plan, support and information and how you approach things all make the difference.

That’s why identifying your goals and the best way to achieve your goals can save you so much time and energy and get you way quicker results.

Are you ready?
Decide on where you want to be, decide what you need to do, commit to taking action.

Then put on those driving gloves, your sunnies, snazzy scarf, roll the roof down and get going!
